Betsy Bird


Betsy Bird resides in Memphis, Tennessee, where she enjoys painting a variety of subjects, among them the carriage horses of Memphis, well-known landmarks, and animals from the Memphis Zoo.


Betsy has studied with artists in Virginia, Maryland, Hawaii, Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi.  She has continued to grow by participating in continuing education classes at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.; Anne Arundel Community College in Annapolis, Md; University of Memphis, Memphis, TN; and the Memphis College of Art.  She has taken workshops at various locations, including the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.


Working primarily in oil and acrylic, Betsy has explored with many techniques.  She also works with stained glass and has produced several windows in private collections -- ranging from a design of the submarine USS HONOLULU to the Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, MD.


Betsy graduated from N.C. State University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (M.Ed.) before spending a 25 year career as an officer in the United States Navy.
